Course for police contact priests, Folkekirkens Katastrofeberedskab
Lecture and workshop with former parish priest Liselotte Hornemann Kragh:
Commandments of suicide: Being able to stand in the room when the tsunami hits and when it becomes everyday
Responding to a suicide will often involve encountering the same broad spectrum of reactions as other tragic and unexpected deaths. The professional is required to stand firmly rooted in a space where the event tears away all that is familiar and the powerlessness sets everyone aside. Over time, the special conditions unfold for survivors of suicide. This requires a continued physical anchoring ability for the professional coupled with concrete knowledge about the special nature of suicide loss. Charlotte Rørth and LHK will use their experience as survivors and as counselors at NEFOS, respectively, to explore what may be at stake in both the acute period and in the prolonged everyday life that follows in the wake of a suicide. The two will then lay out a range of concrete questions and scenarios as a starting point for the evening’s group work.
Charlotte Rørth, born 1962, journalist and author of a number of books on faith and spirituality, organizes retreats, lectures and writing courses, including for suicide survivors. Her youngest son took his own life in 2014.
