“It’s different how we react and when, but there is a lot of help to be found in others’ experiences of living as a bereaved person. Just reading that I’m not alone with this kind of grief and pain is a relief for me.” So says journalist and author Charlotte Rørth. Her youngest son took his own life nine years ago at the age of 22. She herself was helped by writing, so now she runs a writing school for others who have lost to suicide. In August, she will hold an intensive four-day writing school for a maximum of 12 participants in Copenhagen from Thursday to Sunday, August 22-25, 9.30-15 each day. The course is organized in collaboration with Natkirken, Vor Frue Church. The price will be DKK 600 including coffee, tea and lunch. The writing school is open to anyone who has lost someone to suicide, whether it is a loved one, friend or colleague and regardless of how long ago. You need to bring your own laptop and have the courage to write and to be read. “I’m sure that the community in the writing school will be good for those of us sitting there, but also in the long run for others who read the texts,” says Charlotte Rørth and emphasizes that it will be a safe group where we talk together in confidence.
